| Student Placements at Harvey's Point |
 |
 |
 |
We are able to offer a number of non-supervisory placements to students throughout the year. The majority of our placements are for a minimum of 6 months, however we can also offer a limited number of shorter placements.
Our aim is to combine a hands-on learning process with other training methods that will result in the student receiving a complete work and educational work experience.
Culinary Programme
Our culinary programme provides a comprehensive rotational programme through a variety of positions within the Kitchens. The Culinary programme is the only programme that can enable students to take a placement from two weeks to one year. Experience, therefore, will very much depend on the length of the placement.
The programme can include experience within the 2AA Rosette Restaurant Kitchen or the Banquet Kitchen.
Food & Beverage Programme
Students who are on placement for more than 6 months will be able to undertake their training in at least two areas within Food & Beverage. The areas of choice will be the 2AA Rosette Restaurant, the Cocktail Bar, Room Service or our Gourmet Suite.
The timing of the training in each area will depend on the business need at the time.
Housekeeping Programme
Students will be trained in all aspects of servicing the rooms to a 4* standard.
TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
Students on placement for more than 6 weeks will participate in the Hotel Induction programme, which consists of a basic 2 day course followed by a further 4 days for students on a Food & Beverage Programme.
Students on placements of more than 6 months will also be able to participate in any in-house training programme which are relevant to them, and will be able to discuss with their mentor opportunities available within other departments e.g. Marketing, Sales, Front Office, Events, Personnel & Training. |

| Work Experiences at Harvey's Point |

I started working in Harvey’s Point in April 2007. It soon became clear teamwork was an essential element in the running of the hotel. I enjoy working in Harvey’s Point were all staff is “Equal to any, superior to many and inferior to none”

After several years working in 5 star hotel worldwide and having successfully passed Hospitality Management, I wanted to improve my English knowledge and gain new experiences.
I worked in different hotels in Ireland but Harvey’s Point appealed to me more. The friendliness of the Management on the phone was the first good impression I got. So I took the opportunity and came to the lovely town of Donegal.
During my first month of work I quickly recognised that Harvey’s Point Hotel is open minded towards all staff but more so to staff of different cultures. They always have an open ear for questions and ideas. From my experiences within the Hospitality Industry and having recently been promoted to Head Waiter, I can help Harvey’s Point meet the set targets and together with the rest of the team lead Harvey’s Point to further success.

I started in the Tourism & Catering College in 2005, being from Donegal and knowing the reputation of Harvey’s Point I asked if they would consider me for my Work Placement. My first placement was from May 06- Sept 06. I enjoyed my experience and learned a lot. Through this the Hotel asked me to work on a part time basis while I was attending college. During my second placement I experienced different areas of the kitchen and produced high standards of food for their 2 Rosette Restaurant. Having successfully graduated in 2007 Harvey’s Point offered me the position of Chef de Partie. I am grateful to the Hotel for the opportunity that they have given me and the experiences of gaining more work experience in top class Restaurants in Ireland.

Having relocated from the Phillipines I joined the Harvey’s Point team in 2003. I love my job because I have the opportunity to meet people from different countries. I love the challenges in my job which makes it more exciting. I enjoy guests who return to this beautiful hotel which is also very peaceful.
Ireland and Harvey’s Point are my second home, I fell in love with the Country, the people and the Hotel.
