Walking in Donegal

Information for Walkers and Hikers in County Donegal Ireland.
No visit to Harvey's point would be complete without walking or climbing the mountains which the hotel is majestically nestled beneath. The routes are generally uncrowded but it is still a pleasurable experience to meet and chat with other hill walkers along the way. Most routes are designed for a reasonably fit person but does not stop them winding through spectacular mountain scenery. The Bluestack Mountains are a rugged mountain range with peaks in excess of 600m and in parts are quite remote.

Most of the route follows existing tracks which have been fully way marked using wooden posts and yellow "walking man" familiar to walkers worldwide. Stiles and bridges have been constructed where necessary as well as wooden walkways across seasonal wet areas.

The main route takes the road along the Northern shore of the lake while there is a circle route along the roadway on the Southern shore.

Information for Walkers and Hikers in County Donegal Ireland. This long walk through what most people regard as stunning scenery, is also a walk through rich and varied natural habitats all teaming with life most of it unseen. All you need to do is focus a little or concentrate your gaze. Long stretches of bog blanket lie across the area where Golden Plover and Red Grouse can be seen. Around Lough Eske are some of the finest woodlands in the country. There is a wide range of birds which are attracted to these woodlands especially in the summer months. These mountains have been little used for walking or other outdoor pursuits and can offer the user a rare glimpse of a relatively unspoilt landscape and a way of life that has on the whole remained unchanged for centuries.
