Creative Writing - From Process To Page

6th of March - 10th of March 2023

What could be better than writing and relaxing at Harveys Point?  You may want to start writing or continue something you've already started.In this supportive environment, we will access inspiration and ideas by using the tools of the five senses, music, clay, photographs, memorabilia for eg.The influence of Poetry and Prose from established writers will also be used. 

No writing experience is necessary. Writers of all levels and experience are welcome.  

About your tutors 

  Laura McAuley

Laura has extensive experience as a Television Producer and Script Editor. She has a B.A. in English Literature and has run many writing courses and workshops in Ireland and also in Spain and Denmark. She has won a Deirdre Purcell Radio  Show award for one of her short stories and has been published in The Irish Times and Woman’s Way magazine. In 2020 her writing was performed on The Abbey Stage as part of the ‘Dear Ireland’ series.     

 Claire Galligan

 Claire is a professional theatre director, having directed many productions, both nationally and internationally-  in Ireland, Rome and the USA. Claire won the first P.J.O’Connor Radio Award for Drama and the Harvey’s of Bristol Theatre Award for her contribution to the Arts in Ireland. She has lectured and run courses on The Creative Process in American Universities, All Hallowes College, Dublin, Stranmillis College, Belfast, and D.C.U. She has just completed her Memoir which focuses on her work as a theatre director in Mountjoy jail.

  Introduction, meet and greet with Claire and Laura followed by Dinner in our Lakeside Restaurant

 

Tuesday 7th March: 

           The Writing Process with Claire:  Narratives and Nature               

Deep relaxation to prepare the imagination and to destress the body to write with confidence.  Unleash the power of landscapes to explore how inanimate objects have a story to tell.

        Writing with Laura:  Putting the words on the Page

Poetry and prose- using inspiration from the morning’s process workshop.

 

Wednesday 8th March:

The Writing Process with Claire:  Observation and Awareness

 Deep relaxation.  Generative exercises to sharpen our sensory perception and using our eyes as a camera lens as writers.

                     Writing with Laura:  Putting the words on the Page – The Short Story using inspiration from the morning’s process workshop.                                                                                                           

            

Thursday 9th March:

                     The Writing Process with Claire:  A Character Prepares      

Storytelling through a variety of mediums.  Participants will be asked to choose a fictional or non-fictional character and bring their choice                                                                                            to life through clay, memorabilia, symbols and colour.                                                                                  

Writing with Laura:  Putting the words on the Page 

The short story. Using inspiration  from the morning’s workshop.
